How To Use A Euphonium Fingering Chart
The euphonium uses the same fingering system as the trumpet (three valves), but sounds one octave lower. Some euphoniums have a fourth valve for extended low range and improved intonation.
Three Valve vs Four Valve
- Three valve euphoniums: Standard fingerings similar to trumpet
- Four valve euphoniums: Fourth valve provides alternate fingerings and extends the low range
Compensating Systems
Many professional euphoniums have a compensating system that automatically adjusts tubing length when using the fourth valve, improving intonation in the low register.
